After reading You’d Be Home Now, I knew this was going to be just as good. Turned out it was better. This book was devastatingly beautiful. The characters were full of flaws, some more than others, every person just trying to stay alive the best they could. It was raw and reflective of so many people’s experiences. Beautifully written.

This book literally ripped my soul apart, in a good way of course. Because I’m a girl who is also struggling with similar mental health issues that Charlotte was struggling with. And that just made me develop more of a emotional connection to the character than the actual book. I remember that I used to forget that I was reading about someone else because I just felt like I was Charlotte. Relating to her in so many ways made me think that I was a part of her and she was a part of me.

This book was such an amazing read, but also so emotional and really made you feel for Charlotte, our main character in this book.
Charlotte is only 17 years old and was in hospital for severely harming herself, when it comes to her being released her mother meets her outside and gives her a load of things but tells her that it isn’t going to work between them. One of the things her mother gave her was a bus ticket to Tucson, where Charlotte would reunite with Mikey. He offered her a place to stay at his house, but after confrontation with his landlady, Charlotte is told she is to find a job and move out - she had 2 weeks to do this.
The next day Charlotte looks around and immediately finds a job in a coffee house named “True Grit” where she meets Riley.
However, Riley isn’t his real name and he also has a past, like Charlotte herself does. It only takes for him to really mess up with Charlotte later in the book that he eventually tells her everything when on day release from jail.
By the end of the book, Charlotte is in a much better place and is a lot happier with where she is going in life. The ending of the book tells us that Charlotte is on a plane on her way to New York to be an artists assistant after his last one has finished her placement and is leaving.
I can’t believe how the book ended and just hoped there was more, it would have been nice to have an insight into where Charlotte is a few years on from overcoming her troubles.
