The beginning of this book was awesome. I highlighted near every page. Then it just went to hell. It stopped being interesting and funny and instead felt like just a very long mashup of scenes from the Evil Dead. Very little real plot, just gratuitous weirdness and violence. I like horror and gore but this was just boring. Pass.

Initially, I really enjoyed the frantic onslaught of absurd grotesque violence however, at 466 pages, there was a point where it started to feel a bit longer than needed. That being said, John Dies at the End is definitely one of the most creatively ambitious books I've read in awhile. Often funny, largely gross, occasionally offensive, and thoughtfully observational. A good read for the horror-comedy genre.
