Interesting, unusual, fully-rounded characters who live and breathe and fit well together, as usual. Highly recommended!

So many things happening. I love everything Meljean writes and this is no exception. The worldbuilding, the action, the spice

"you tell yourself that it makes you feel good - but really, you're just getting by. because you feel like shit with it, but you REALLY feel like shit without it."

"maybe i should be wondering why you ain't asking. so i figure it must be one of those things that don't mean nothing if you got to ask for it."

I read the Iron Duke first, and loved it, so I thought I would try the author's earlier series. Based on her website, she actually recommends starting with this book first, which is the third in the series, because the heroine is new to the world of the Guardians, and you get a pretty detailed explanation of their world. I agree with her suggestion, because I didn't feel like I jumped into something halfway through. I think it's a great story, and the series gets even better from here.

Not into it. I didn't enjoy the hero's aw shucks cowboy shtick nor that the heroine's beloved sister would stay with the man who turned her sister into a vampire. Not Cool.
