Heart wrenching book but well told and compliments Anne’s diary very well. An enriching read, even if devastating.

This was such a tragic, yet redemptive, story. Hannah's story, which intersects with Anne Frank, is heartbreaking, yet she lived such a hope-filled life. The well narrated audio version of this book was very engaging, and I highly recommend this. It is definitely one of my best listens of 2023.

For context, I read this memoir (or, autobiography if you will) in a span of 12 hours, which practically means that I spent my entire day reading, occasionally near drawing myself to tears at my local bagel shop.

I have read Anne Frank's diary before, however, I do believe that Hannah Pick-Goslar's memoir is a must-read "sequel" of the former's diary. As much as it is gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, yet deeply motivating Frank writes in her diary, I believe that reading her friend's story is just as important.

Hannah Pick-Goslar's friendship with Anne Frank, perhaps touches me the most. Young teenage girls living their most happiest moments, seeing each other in class until their separation and then later a temporary reunion. I think the two girls were most likely soulmates, or perhaps more than best friends. I found it extremely heartbreaking to see how Pick-Goslar still believed that her friend was alive and living in Amsterdam. Yet, it really captivates you into thinking, "wow, after all that time, she still mentions her friend years after?"

Without a doubt, I definitely recommend this memoir. Now, I shall go and binge watch the movie, "My Best Friend Anne Frank." Yes, I am That Invested.

Wow. This book was incredibly powerful and l would recommend it to everyone. This book felt like so many missed “close calls”. So many people were so close to surviving this tragedy around Hannah and it was heartbreaking. The perspective of families and friends going missing and not knowing if they were in hiding, if they actually escaped or if they were in concentration camps was difficult. My heart broke each time Hannah excitedly yearned for Anne in Switzerland. The parallel between Hannah and seeing her story, along with Anne’s, and coming full circle at Bergen-Belsen, was emotional, heart breaking and inspiring.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for the advanced reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
