4.5/5. I love this series!!!!!!! I flew through this. Linda Castillo writes such dark, disturbing, creepy mysteries! I can't get enough! Although I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first book in the series, it was still a solid read, and I look forward to continuing!

I think this was Castillo's best story yet...so many surprises! And she really made her characters believable and complex. Real. I want the next one right now.

Breaking Silence is Linda Castillo’s third novel in the Kate Burkholder series. In this novel, Kate investigates a manure pit tragedy on a quiet Amish farm. What at first seems like an unfortunate accident soon turns into a murder investigation.
Breaking Silence was a fantastic thriller! As per Linda Castillo’s prior two novels, she keeps you guessing up until the very end. Like Kate, I felt myself growing attached to the four Slabaugh children, so it was hard to witness all of the twists and turns the end of the novel took. I was not expecting the ending, and I couldn’t help but think how tragic and unnecessary the killings were. While the ultimate mastermind behind the murders was a true psychopath, I can’t help but think she was like a caged animal trying to break free from the confines of her strict up-bringing. Or maybe she had me duped into sympathizing with her too?
As with the previous two novels in the series, Kate and John’s relationship continues to grow. I like that the romance isn’t the central theme of the book. Kate’s passion is for her work—she’s not a lovesick puppy nipping at John’s heels. I appreciate the slow evolution of their romance and hope this continues in future novels.
I’ve said it before, but if you’re a fan of thrillers and enjoy listening to audiobooks, check this series out! The voice actor does a fantastic job, and the stories suck you in immediately.

I can't believe how quickly I read through this book. I really enjoyed this one and couldn't have predicted the resolution. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series and being caught up.

Really enjoyed this mystery that takes place in Amish country and police chief Kate. It's the third in a series, but it is fine as a stand-alone book.

Another chilling suspense by Linda Castillo. As with the previous two book in the series, I didn't figure out who the perpetrator was until it was laid out in front of me and loved the unexpected twist that nobody could see coming.
I really hope this isn't the last I read. Especially because I want to see how things between Kate Burkholder and John Tomasetti continue to develop.
