I really loved this alternate ending to Hatchet. I love a good survival story and Brian's survival is filled with nostalgia for me, even if I didn't read the whole series as a kid. The added danger of winter really added to the tension of this book, everything was suddenly more serious. I loved seeing how Brian winterized everything and learned to adapt to this new environment. I think this book was a little more mature than Hatchet because there was some truly traumatizing depictions in this one (the wolf hunt, yikes, that will stay with me forever). I really liked the gore though because surviving isn't glamourous at all and Brian would have had to witness some horrific thing and had to have done some horrific things to. All in the name of survival.
Such a great edition to the series, probably an equal favourite with Hatchet. Can't wait to finish Brian's story.

BOOOOO one star for a misleading tagline “what if Brian had never been rescued?” He literally got rescued at the end of the book??? I was ready for him to die out there

A New Ending
I like the way Brian's story ended, so I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book. However, it was fascinating to see the story extended with all new challenges .
