Interesting that I read this almost back-to-back with the latest Claire Keegan. With Keegan, whilst I have enjoyed all of her exquisite miniatures, I am increasingly frustrated by the sudden termination of the worlds she creates, many of which are so vivid they beg more lengthy exploration. This, on the other hand, felt like a novella stretched to novel length. A bit underwhelming, really.

 slow start then I devoured it to know what happens. Super sad but a great read and wonderful writing.
