131020: my main takeaway from rage: it’s true! all the people in the government really are as evil and as stupid as they seem.

this will probably be one of the first things a lot of people researching the trump administration in 50 years will read, and unfortunately bob woodward knows it. the language varies only slightly between cliché and infantilizing, with the occasional bout of homophobia to spice things up. someone has probably compiled a one-page supercut of all the new information in this; i’d recommend reading that instead. or at the least, have pity on yourself and start at the same place the action does (which, unfortunately, is chapter 30).

Not a whole lot in here that wasn't in the news or in the articles that surrounded the release of the book.

Would rather have just listened to the raw interviews that the books were based on.

Terrifying! I sincerely hope this is the last book I need to read about Trump. Vote Blue 2020!

Woodward is back with his most damning book.

With 18 taped conversations with Trump he sinks himself with his hubris and ignorance.

Read it. It's all true.

You've probably heard the bombshells that Bob discloses in his interviews. His assessment - this man is not the right man for the job. Woodward is a Republican. It sounds like it was difficult to manage these interviews as Mr. Trump would not stay on topic. As Trump said, "There is Dynamite behind every door." But, opening which door, exactly, will result in an explosion?

I found it worth reading, simply as an informed citizen. Having read John Bolton, Michael Cohen and Mary Trump's books, I come away with a very different view than I started out with. I'm still not a supporter of Mr. Trump, but these books are not entirely unsympathetic - believe it or not. They give great insight into his character and reinforce my initial impression that he is a modern-day P.T. Barnum. A side-show hawker extraordinaire.

Truly tells a story that you'd call doubtful if you didn't know it was true.

My eyes glazed over as I read multiple sections of this book. (Though the love letters from Kim Jong Un are wild!) It’s not Bob Woodward’s fault—Trump talks in circles and believes he’s the savior of the world. At one point, he tells Woodward, “I’ve done a tremendous amount for the Black community….And honestly, I’m not feeling any love.” How do you get a low empathy, self-centered president to admit he’s your typical white supremacist to admit he has privilege and has made missteps with the virus response? Woodward’s frustration is palpable. Perhaps it’s why, in the end, Woodward states, “Trump is the wrong man for the job.”
