I gave this book such a high star rating mainly because of the happy nostalgia it evoked. I absolutely love love love Skellig with all my heart, and My Name is Mina, while not quite as wonderful, definitely sets the same atmosphere.
I feel like I wouldn't have liked this book as much as I did had I not read Skellig beforehand, so I highly recommend you read Skellig and get to know Mina through Michael first, because this is a character driven book, not a story/plot driven one, and so if you don't care about Mina, this book is meaningless.
But going into it knowing Mina and Michael and what happens after the end of this book, I absolutely loved it.

The typography in this book is amazing and really draws the reader into the story. Mina expresses feelings all of us might have had, but has a gorgeous way of phrasing them, which I really enjoyed. The book does leave me wondering if a child would really have all these elaborate existential thoughts, but it doesn't take away from how highly enjoyable and inspiring this book is.

I didn't realize this was a prequel when I started it. I might read the next story, but most likely not. I bought this at the goodwill because the cover looked nice and the pages looks interesting and quick in the diary format. It took me about 3 hours start to finish. Mina was a sweet character. She made me feel bad for having a pet bird though.

Hi I love Mina.

The way she sees the world is so beautiful.

The first time I read this oh-so-long-ago was as an ebook, and either the unique formatting was somewhat compromised or I just completely forgot there was unique formatting. Either way, it was a surprise, but not a bad one (once I got used to it), and I think it fit wonderfully with Mina's thought processes.

Now I need to go reread Skellig.

I have no words
in my opinion this book was absolutely amazing and extravagant.
It opened my eyes to things I have not seen before in the world.
I was reading it non-stop.
I can proudly say this is my favorite book
