This is like dark academia with food.

Honestly the food metaphors are incredible, the subtlety of the food reflecting the story arc is really cool. I loved Roberta, I loved her journey. I loved the imagery and I loved analysing this book.

I wish we knew what she chose, but I think it’s fairly clear that she chooses Adnan. I also think Stevie is a total controlling bitch, but she has her moments.

I like the themes of nonconformity, of trying to be yourself. Overall this is a really easy read, and a really interesting one.

I thought this was good but it wasn't really the book I was expecting. I think I'd focused on the reviews which called this joyful and funny, which it is at times, but the main character does spend a lot of the book depressed and anxious, dealing with trauma and loneliness. It meant her headspace was sometimes a hard place to spend time. The story was interesting though and it reminded me of Animals by Emma Jane Unsworth and Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney in the way it deals with dysfunctional female friendship and women behaving recklessly. I think ultimately I was more intrigued by the premise than the actual book but I liked Williams' writing so I'll look out for more of her work.

I heard so much hype about this book and to be honest, I wish I hadn’t because it really set me up for what I thought I would find. It frankly made me feel disgusting, sickened and ruined my appetite, but I wish I had given up because I didn’t get the ending I was hoping for – as in any kind of satisfaction at all. Didn’t connect with the characters and didn’t really care by the end what happened to any of them.
