Jessie's mother died two years ago and now her father has moved her across the country to live with his new bride, a woman Jessie barely knows. Now she is living in a pretentious L.A. community and attending a prestigious private school where she doesn't fit in.

Two classmates are determined to make her life miserable, but a random text message from a fellow student proves that someone in the school is on her side. The mysterious texter, SN, wants to remain anonymous but the two continue to connect via text messaging.

As things start to feel like they are falling apart with her best friend back home, her father and stepmother, and the girls at school, Jessie realizes just how much the mysterious SN means to her. She is finally ready to meet, but wonders if the mysterious texter is the person she hopes he is.

I enjoyed the main character, Jessie. She was balancing a lot of emotions and different relationships in her life. Her debacle with her friend from home seemed a little out of the blue. I understood her friend's feelings, but her friend's behavior felt immature and unlike the character we had gotten to know. (supportive friend)

One major character I had issues with was the father. I didn't find the father's behavior very believable. Jessie was close to her parents before her mom's death so his emotional neglect of her didn't realistic. The way he continued that behavior even after their big move felt unrealistic.

The book used interesting writing formats including lots of texting, which felt modern and fun. But at times, it also distracted from the story a little bit too. (maybe that is my old lady brain)

Overall, I enjoyed this one though it was definitely for a younger audience. I typically love YA literature, including romances like books by John Green, but this one lacked the depth of emotion found in other YA books. There was just a lot of stereotypical teen behavior that hasn't been in my life for a LONG time which made me feel a bit out of touch with some elements of the story.

NOTE: This was a cute, modern YA romance, though I wouldn't give it to a teen under 16. There is some mature behavior (sex, smoking, drinking), and teens discuss these things. If I gave this to my teen at all, I'd save it for an older teen.

Was an easy read that took me probably just a few hours total. Pretty good book but a lot of second hand embarrassment.(from what I remember lol)

I did like this, but the characters and plot felt very cliche overall, like I was watching a movie. Also I didn't like the almost constant sexual undertone. Seriously, that band name? What in the world? The ending of the book was very sweet though.

It's like a little less than mid... Like I don't necessarily like the characters or the fast paces development between them, however... the trope and cause of romance are cute. I would have preferred more of a slow burn for this type of romantic trope. The progression of her using SN as her anchor was just too fast and ill-developed for my liking... like girl please have some self-respect.

If the story had better characters with more complex thoughts and more detailed development, I would fawn over the book. It was a decent read though so all is well that ends well.
