Well, great. You are asked to plan the annual spring house tour and a dead body turns up in a pond. Could this day get any better?

I adored the idea of the murder mystery weekend, and the clashing characters were amusing. There's ample humor, as much as the first, maybe more. The main character's temper is as strong and fiery, but she doesn't get on my nerves in this one, which is good. Some of the switches to Max's point of view weren't needed, but he's a suitable love interest/boyfriend. The culprit ending was well done. I have no idea why it took so long to read this one, something about it - while I can't find flaws by itself - just wasn't grabbing my attention for long periods.

More like 3.5* I liked this book, but it was not exactly fast paced. The story was engaging, but not riveting. The premise was interesting, planning a murder mystery game and then being framed for a murder. I did not know who the murderer was, and was surprised. I was extremely irritated with the down home way the Police Chief handled the crime; basically refusing to look at anybody other than the outsiders. This book is full of references to older mystery writers, and books, most of whom I have not read. Despite the fact that the book looks small, it was only 217 pages the font was incredibly tiny which made this book take a lot longer to read than I anticipated. Despite my aggravation with this book I do like the characters and plan on reading more in this series.

Annie and Max are back for their second adventure. Annie is invited to plan a mystery party for the Historical Preservation Society of Chastain, a nearby island. However, she clashes with the snooty Corinne Webster. Apparently, that's not an unusual happening with Corinne. In fact, she's pissed someone off so much that she ends up with a croquet mallet in the skull. Once again, Annie (being a stranger) is the prime suspect. She and Max will have to work out if it was Corinne's husband, her niece, the niece's boyfriend or any one of the other countless people who threatened Corinne that day.

I got tired of the mystery writers' name dropping.

The murder was not as interesting as the mystery game Annie created!
