a high 3.5

i didn’t really know what this book was about at all when i picked it up (i just saw 15 minutes of the beginning of jim butcher’s interview w daniel greene and really liked his vibe so i said “why not read it?”) but i’m glad i didn’t.

i don’t think this is really my go-to fantasy book but it worked! i enjoyed the tone, the writing style and the characters. i’m just giving it 3.5 now because i know this will grow to something more “wow” and because i didn’t love it. it was fun and it was cool but i need MORE.

and that’s why i’m continuing with the story! i heard nothing but great things about the other books in this series and i’m very interested to see where it goes. definitely wanting more magic history, more magic creatures appearing and more murphy from them!

anyways i recommend storm front a lot and hope that anyone that comes to read this (very unplanned) review feels the urge to pick it up!

A fantastic read.

I was recommended this by a friend a few years ago now and when it came up on my Kindle I decided to give it a go. What a great choice!

The author, Jim Butcher's writing style reminds me a lot of another favourite author of mine, Christopher Moore's. The main character has the same dry wit, the same sarcastic humour and the same I-don't-give-a-shit attitude as Moore's but deep down he actually does care. Moore's characters are interesting and I think as I read further books, Dresden's character is going to unfold and not be dissimilar. I like that and am looking forward to seeing it.

Highly recommended if you like sarcasm, action, adventure, magic and a touch of luuuurve.

While a bit stereotypical and predictable it was a fun read. While I wasn't that hype about the description of women it wasn't awful, but there is room for improvement. There were a lot of women in it through with different motives and not just a love interest so in that sense he did a great job!

I do really like having a detective novel with magic and I will check out the next one as well.
