This book made my heart ache for Joey, Aoife and everyone whose life was affected by Teddy Lynch. I was internally screaming enough whenever I saw Teddy make an appearance on the page and felt so devastated whenever he took another beating on his family and implanted a poisonous seed in Joey's mind. And many times I felt bad for Marie because I do believe that deep in her heart she wanted to love Joey, to be a mom for her kids and to protect her kids from repeating her mistakes. I know that her fear had held her back from doing the right things for herself and her kids. I understand that being pregnant at age of 14 and permanently bound to Teddy Lynch at that age due to pregnancy had destroyed herself as a person and ability to grow into a real adult. She had every right to be upset and angry but it did not excuse her to be an abuser to Joey and ignored her duties as a parent to her kids. She did one last right thing before her death and I hope that she would be able to live a normal life like many others in her next life. While this book was great with a bunch of heartaches and emotional roller coasters, it definitely contained something that I do not quite like. Aoife was a great character. She was strong and determined. Perfect for Joey. But there was one time that both Joey and Shan got hurt. She was comforting Joey while her internal dialogue was like "yeah I was not really worried (about Shan's injuries)." This felt so not right to me. I would understand if she needed to put Joey first by thinking something like "while I understand Shan was also hurt I must put Joey as my top priority blah blah blah," but definitely not that "I do not really care" attitude. I just could not match this person with the girl who went all her ways to protect and defend Shan in B13 and K13.

Heat: 🔥 There were some at first but considering how depressing the story was before Teddy Lynch finally died I'd rather it to be just like B13.

i adored joey & aoife. i think their relationship was beautiful, and rough around the edges. they were soulmates through and through. i liked that this book was binding & keeping 13 from joey + aoife’s perspective, but i wish we got more. for almost 800 pages, i think we could have focused more on joey during rehab, and post-rehab. the majority of the story was joey going through it with his addiction, and i feel like the book would have been better if it was more so watching joey get better, especially since it is redeeming 6.

also, having to re-read the events of keeping 13 hurt so badly. having to read more about their trauma was extremely painful. i binged this book in a day, but this is definitely not one of those books you read entirely in a day. it was extremely dark especially in comparison to the johnny & shannon duet.

This book was one of my favourites from the series so far. Getting to see joeys side of things was so beyond inspiring. I’m assuming if you’re reading this you’ve probably read at least saving 6, but if you somehow haven’t, I strongly encourage you to. This one might put your emotions through the wringer, but sometimes that makes the best books.

My heart is broken and healed and hurting so freakin much. Joey Lynch is such a phenomenal character. I knew going into this book that it was going to hurt, a lot, which is why I think I put it off for a little bit. And I was right, this hurt so much. To be inside Joey’s head for two whole books was such a rollercoaster. But seeing through his eyes through the big things that we read about in the two 13 books was HARD. I cried so many times. And I absolutely loved getting to know Aoife too, I’m so thankful we got her POV through everything. Shes such a strong character, seriously one of my fav fictional women ever. Her love for Joey is unmatched. And his love for her is overwhelming in the best most all consuming way. as always, I adored getting bits of all the other characters as well, especially my love Gibsie. My only complaint is I wish we would have gotten more of the story after August 30, 2005 and maybe less of the stuff that comes before? I know that’s vague but I’m trying not to spoil anything. Thank you endlessly for giving us these characters Chloe, but also darn you for hurting my heart so much through all of these books!

Thank you to Bloom and NetGalley for the early access.
