This amazing collection of gems and works of art both breaks and mends souls. Superb. Devastating. Immense! Ken Liu is a genius!

It is rare for a collection of short fiction to have no duds. Somehow, Ken Liu has achieved this. Even the ordering of the stories feels right. The fantastical, scifi, and historical elements all beautifully support the humanity at the heart of every page. It is also personally exciting to have so many Asian and Asian American characters. Someone else please read it so we can discuss.

A brilliant anthology of some simple some complicated mostly sci-fi stories full of magic realism. The author's oriental heritage reflects in the characters, which blends so well with the storytelling that it's interesting rather than alienating for readers who aren't well versed with that culture. The depth of his imagination and the thrilling plotlines make the book a page turner from the first page to the last. A very different kind of an author, very different kind of stories, the most interesting book I've read this year. We need more such authors. A fantastic read, I'm a fan!

4.5 stars. So hard since some of these stories are life-changing but a couple are more 3.5-4 star range.
