Why does this feel low-key misogynistic? In the way that you can't put your finger exactly on what it is and so you feel silly saying it but nevertheless you're left feeling uncomfortable and bothered.

Anathema is a witch, she is intelligent and capable and has many great qualities. Her role got reduced to having sex with some loser because "that's what the prophecy says" and then reduced again to being referred to and treated as the mere wife of said loser.

Then there's Madame Tracy, don't get me started on how badly she was treated. First of all, Shadwell the sexist trash, is written as if his bigotry is something quirky and that women (Madame Tracy) should just take the abuse like good obedient inferiors. Then after the novel-long toxic disgusting misogynistic drivel from Shadwell to Madame, they show her ASKING HIM TO LIVE WITH HER????

They both deserved better.

Very disappointing, especially as I love Terry Pratchett's and Neil Gaiman's other works and know they are capable of writing and treating their non-male characters better than this!
