Felt it was time to finally read the whole thing after only having seen the play performed in a lecture hall at McGill once before. Happy to read the 20th anniversary edition and see how the project has grown in intersectionality. I didn’t even realize how global the whole “V-Day” movement was. Very cool to see art and activism coming together in a major way, and actually helping to better women’s lives.

2 3/4 Stars. While I knew from the get go that this collection of monologues is reductionistic and cissexist, I still hoped to find some value in it considering its longstanding hype in certain feminist circles. Instead, I found that it was even more problematic than I anticipated. By the end, I was both extremely uncomfortable and frustrated with Ensler's shallow, unholistic approach to womanhood and body awareness.
