This overview of adolescent emotional dynamics approaches teenagers with the idea that emotions should be acknowledged and encouraged, even the negative ones, rather than suppressed.

From there, the book examines contributing factors in teen emotional states and gives ideas on encouraging healthy expression of feelings, and regulation when necessary.

I found some excellent insights here, along with some common-sense advice that was still worth reading even if I felt I was already aware of it. The author's anecdotes did a nice job of laying out examples and giving a human dimension to the more clinical aspects of the book.

This is not a long book, and there was definitely room for more depth, but it is an excellent starting point that provides some immediately useful strategies for parents looking for help with teens going through the common kinds of emotional drama.
