DNF: I liked her other books, but I don't want to keep reading about the conquest of South America.

I have always loved Allende, and while this doesn't make it to the top of her repetoire for me, it was definitely a good read. Multi-generational story lines and strong female roles make my A-list any day.

Historical fiction following the story of Inés something, a woman who was instrumental in the founding of Chile. Her travels from Spain to Colombia to Peru to Chile; relationships with lovers and husbands; the war against the Mapuche for land and the struggle to survive in a hostile environment. Didn’t love this book, but the story is gripping and Allende’s writing is overall quite good.
