I think there was a lot of good advice in this book that I'll definitely take to heart, but parts of it were a little slow and boring.

3.5 stars. This was one of my favorite writing books back in 2013, but that was also the year I first started reading books on writing. I think it’s a fantastic book for first-time novelists and would definitely recommend it in that regard. However, if you’ve written a handful of books and know a lot about the craft, this one will feel more like a starter book. But again, it’s great for a writer newly learning the craft and wanting inspiration!

What a lazy book this is. The author writes as if you're talking to her, interrupting her prose, which is irritating. It's a good book for someone who's afraid of writing, afraid of "breaking the rules", and is probably good for someone just starting out, but it isn't good for someone who wants to learn something new, different, or unique. It's a rehash of so many other writing books.

4-1/2 Stars. Best book on writing a novel that I have found so far. (And I have looked at many.) Highly recommended.
