I normally enjoy a bit of magical realism but I just did not get on with this prose and I hated almost every single character. Why does this book want to be as close to Oedipal as it can legally get? Why is there no real plot? Why did I make it 6 hours in? All questions I still have. I picked this up because it was a classic but this is both a DNF and a reminder that the “canon” isn’t for everyone.
