I think the book was good: the narrative is definitely jumpy with big time gaps, but to me, this shows the insanity of the unreliable narrator.

Esther's mad. Incredibly and miserably mad. And I am perpetually forlorn with her.

I know so little about this book and did not bother to research the content warnings. I did knew that the work is semi-autobiographical. Clueless with the graphic and detail of her inner and concluding turmoil and mental suffering, The Bell Jar testifies arresting writing from the first word until the last.

Emotionally anchored, this book is indeed a deeply devoted work.

This book was incredibly written, Esther’s depression was so well written and the treatment she received from other people showed that depression and other mental illnesses weren’t fully understood back then, and that no one truly understood her struggles. I found a lot of her struggles to be relatable, and I felt like she was a very real character.

Plath has a wicked—and wickedly funny—sense of humor.  The subject matter is difficult and some of the passages excruciating.  It is definitely worth reading and I am sorry it has taken me so long to pick it up.

This is a very relatable and well written book, don't get me wrong. But
her slow unravelling once she's rejected from her course after the internship finishes was not good for my own mental health unfortunately. I felt like I was slipping into depression and suicide ideation alongside her, so NOPE NOPE NOPE.
I will hopefully come back to this if/when I'm in a better mindspace.

This isn't a book I would usually read. I feel really moved by this book and it was an unforgettable read. It somehow feels like I'm sitting here and I've been punched in the gut. It's poetic, emotional, dark, sad, and so much more. I don't even know how to sum up what I'm feeling right now..... But go read this book.
