Essays on specific aspects & examples of Inner Asian warfare. I find that these look at the culture of war, and as such give insight into the societies.

The back says, "This is the first scholarly work to embrace Inner Asian military history across a broad spatial and chronological spectrum." I have been unhappy with what I've read on steppe warfare from major general {I don't mean that as a rank. I mean big-name, generalist} military historians, John Keegan and Azar Gat. I imagine that books like this, that start with the specific yet try to build an Inner Asian view, are just the way towards a fix.
