Ellie Marleyā€™s writing is beautiful. I highlighted so many lyrical moments. Shout out to the part mentioning Texas sunsets šŸ’• The frustrating thing that I couldnā€™t get over while reading is the fact that this book is rated as ā€œyoung adult.ā€ Icky.Ā

SUCH a good book. ik some people donā€™t like it, but i personally enjoyed it a lot. finished it in three days. it had me on the edge of my seat. i love how Emma, the mc, isnā€™t protrayed as a helpless little girl. sheā€™s strong and has attitude, but also is relatable and realistic. i also love cooper and bell. i really love how different the characters are. the gutmunsson twins are suuuper interesting characters. i enjoyed reading scenes with them. this is a dark book, with descriptions of awful murder scenes and trauma. so if youā€™re easily shaken, maybe pick up a different book.Ā

I loved this book! The characters were all very well written and the writing style is unique but easy to get used to. Emma is an amazing character and her growth was very well done. Simon is intriguing and complicated and creepy and I really hope we get more of him in book 2. Overall and amazing book with great characters and great interactions between those characters.

This book was way different from what I normally read, but I still really enjoyed it! You can tell the author took a lot of time researching and it really payed off! I will definitely be reading the second one at some point! I feel like this book is really under hyped sadly (i mean look at the cover it's gorgeous). So overall I really enjoyed it! I feel like the ending was perfect as well.

This book is ok not the best but not the worst read. It is relatively gruesome and borrows a little too much from silence of the lambs in my opinionĀ

October is going so well that I kind of donā€™t want to jinx it by saying October is going well. Iā€™ve finished 6 books in the first 12 days of the month with just 4 left to read for the month. It was definitely helped along by the fact that this book is so readable. I would have finished this in 24 hours if I didnā€™t have work getting in the way. We follow two teenagers who are picked by the FBI due to their traumatic pasts to work on a special project that includes interviewing teenage serial killers. But their project gets derailed as a new serial killer pops up in Virginia. Can their teenage knowledge and wisdom stop such a careful and precise killer?

This was well on the way to being a 4 star (possibly more?) for me up until the last 75 pages or so. I found the ending to be rushed and sloppy. I especially didnā€™t love the writing for the action sequences. It was messy and needed more and better description. But I did really enjoy the setting of the FBI (specifically the Behavior Science division) and all of the little behind the scene glimpses we got there. I was a big Criminal Minds girly--I might still be a Criminal Minds girly--but I do feel like this book did a better job of displaying what a fledgling division like that might have looked like in the early days. I also felt like they did a good job exploring what specifically makes these serial killers serial killers. It didnā€™t last very long but that was a fun part of the book for me. I wish we had gotten more of that. I also wish we had gotten more of them taking the classes on the FBI campus so it would feel more realistic. They have to get the basics down before they can go out there interviewing prisoners. Am I basically saying my usual refrain of ā€œI wish the book was longerā€? Maybe. What are you, a cop?

Overall, it was a quick, easy, and enjoyable read. Iā€™m just not sure Iā€™m invested enough to keep going with the series when the new book comes out next year. It was a satisfying enough ending that I could probably leave it there if I wanted.
