Volume 8 of “American Vampire” feels VERY much like the mirror of Volume 7…with all of the positives and negatives that entails.

On the plus side? Rafael Alberquerque’s art continues to be a highlight, balancing bright colors with stark linework in a way that perfectly emulates the 60’s era of the story. There’s also a genuine thrill to watching Scott Snyder slowly begin to move all of the series’ accumulated narrative chess pieces into their final positions, particularly as we ramp up towards the grand finale.

On the not-so-plus side? Much of the storytelling here feels overly convoluted – a rarity for “American Vampire” – and some of the character choices – especially amongst the core leads – seem strangely unmotivated, almost as if Snyder didn’t have the time to fully flesh them out.

Overall, Volume 8 is still more “good” than “bad”…but for a series that has practically embodied narrative excellence up til now, it’s hard not to be a little confused – and disappointed – by some of its late game storytelling decisions.

This fell flat. It didn't work as well for me and I was surprised after the previous volumes being so strong.

There was so much potential here, especially with space travel! But it didn't seem as fine-tuned as other volumes. Out of all the other volumes, this one seems the least likely for me to read again.

It's alright, especially if you like the series -- there are some advancements that are worth knowing about. Other than that, it's not all that worth reading.

Is it the ending to the American Vampire saga? I'm scratching my head at the ending. It feels like a serious cliff hanger. I loved the storyline but it all felt rushed. I'm disappointed by that. Beautiful illustrations as usual however. That and my love for the series saved it from just getting 2 stars as a rating.

Sorprendente.

Me está encantando. Quiero mucho más de esto, por favor.

i was mentally preparing myself before picking up this volume because i thought it was the last one. foolish me. not only there is a ninth volume (only an anthology, so not technically a continuation of the current storyline) but at the end of this volume there was a promise: third cycle coming soon

well, count me in. i can't wait.

this is probably my favourite graphic novel series just for the rarity that i liked both the writer and the artist. i have to keep on reading it. although there isn't a confirmed date for the tenth volume (scott snyder probably too busy writing about bats and men than vampires), trust me when i say i will be waiting

The thrilling tale of Skinner Sweet, and his ilk, concludes!

I don't know if I liked this volume as much as some of the earlier ones. But I would gladly keep reading this series, especially because of what happened to Sweet at the end (Whaaaaaaat)
