4 stars.

This was so good and I don’t think it could have needed any other way.

I read it in about 20 mins. I couldn’t put it down until I found out how it ended. Although this is a book about an affair it’s also a book about marriage. And it made some really great points that I didn’t see coming.

TJR. She might be one of my very favorite authors. I will always read what she writes. And now to read her entire backlist.

Okay. So I've read Daisy Jones & The Six and enjoyed it. I keep hearing praise about Evelyn Hugo and her millions of husbands, so I plan to get around to that one eventually. I saw this available from Amazon for free and thought it'd be a little palate cleanser between heavier fare (I'm reading like 6 books at once here as usual). I...wasn't entirely wrong, it was definitely something lighter between other stories.

Problem is, it's a little too light. There's really no substance to this. It's a soapy and ridiculous endeavor where two dull people find out that their equally dull spouses are having an affair with each other. I'll leave it at that as far; I suspect any attempt to give a synopsis will probably better flesh out the story. This could probably have worked as a straight novel, but the only other one of the author's works I've read was also an alternative format...I can't give an honest assessment on whether I think she can actually write a good straight novel. I suppose I'll have a better idea after trying a few more

The language was terrible - overwrought, saccharine, melodramatic stuff I remember putting together when I was in high school and insisted on replacing every other word with one from a thesaurus. The plot itself isn't bad, and it may just be that an epistolary work isn't the best showcase for this tale of betrayal, adultery, and trash bag human beings.

My second Taylor Jenkins-Reed book, and I'm glad that the ending isn't what I had anticipated. Given that this was a short story, I was glued to my seat from the beginning to the end and couldn't help but think what may have happened if we had received one more letter from David.

So many feelings in only 80 pages!! Loved the letter format too, and the Daisy Jones reference
