This book started out strong, but King couldn’t keep me interested through to the end. I wish it was about 100 pages shorter

I really enjoyed this one. I can't say that it is my favorite Stephen King novel, but considering that it was one of his first novels is striking. The portrayal of a man's descent into a psychological breakdown coupled with supernatural events isn't necessarily unique (maybe it was in the 70's, I don't know), but the way that it is told is fascinating. I don't think there is another psychological-horror novel quite like this one and it will probably be remembered for a long time as a hallmark book in the realm of horror fiction.

my heart is RACING even tho i knew the story! the book feels so much kinder than the movie, somehow optimistic but pragmatic. feel so much more (both good and bad feelings) for jack, he is so fleshed out in this!

also INSANITY how all of the iconic shining lines/visuals are not in the book…stanny just doing it

actually for real this book fucks
