Beautifully written with strong character development. The story is interesting and explores the characters’ motivations. For me, the downside was the pace. I was invested in the characters and resolving the mystery, but it was a bit of a slog to get there.

I’m giving this a four because it was a super fun book to listen to. I’ve read several reviews that talk about how slow this book is and in considering it I guess it is slow. But I could listen to the reader of this book all day even he was just reading the dictionary. Add on that I really like these characters and I’m down for some character development and some mystery…it’s good!

Much like the first book, there are so many words to tell what amounts to a short story - like, the "mystery" doesn't start until nearly two-thirds of the way into the book. That's when the dead body shows up. Everything before is laying the foundation and while it never felt like a waste of time, it did feel like it could've been.... thirty pages. At the absolute most. I was never really aware of a belaboring or a long-windedness but I was sometimes bored. There's a lot of talk about weather and fictional people's fictional history with Ireland going back generations upon generations and just.... you know Colm on Derry Girls? Yeah, that.

The story was good and I loved who done it and did not see it coming, but the story was also maybe only 15% of the book.
