I was excited to pick up this book to be able to see what’s going on with Ross Poldark, and his family and friends. Seeing the story develop and seeing how the characters had to go through some difficult times, some alone and others with the support of friends. The characters have developed throughout the story which made it very interesting, as you got to see them change because of the scenarios that they had to go through. I am curious to see what is going to happen next.

Another excellent installment in the Poldark series, although the tension between Ross and Demelza is hard to take, and Demelza's actions are truly upsetting. I couldn't pay too much attention to the political scheming, but enjoyed the further explorations of the various relationships and the characters' struggles.

What the hell, Demelza.

The best part of this is Ossie's problem.

Quotable: "Elizabeth almost asked Rowella and Arthur as well; but somehow one just couldn't bring oneself to invite a librarian, not to supper at least, and she knew it would have made George angry."

I'm halfway through the series and still enjoying it, so I supposed that says something. I feel like the characters are well written, the author could certainly write characters that are terrible and despicable people. Even though Ross and Demelza both have their flaws, they have enough good qualities that I still like them and root for them. Even Elizabeth, as much as I still don't like her, isn't a completely awful person. But I really can't stand George Warleggan or Ossie, it's rare for me to wish harm would come to characters but I don't think I would be too upset if something happened to them down a dark alley... Anyway, on to the next book!
