the twin brother of The Outsider/Stranger by Camus and my personal favourite child of the two

don't think I've been so shooketh and have cared so much for a plot twist in a classic in a while

This book is currently a DNF for me. It is not because I don't like it, on the contrary, I understand that Nabokov is a genius. I DNF'd at page 48 because I am not. I currently lack the intellectual flair to understand what's going on in this story. However, I hope to pierce the comprehension veil and give this a more confident second attempt in the future.

This feels like a promising outline of a novel posing as a novel. Kinda makes me feel ill. It's giving The Stranger and frankly ew.

Edit (next day) Okay - so I just reread the final five chapters because they were my favorite and I'm raising my rating to 2 stars bc it's really a 1.75 not a 1. I think I have a better understanding of this novel now and why it is the way it is. It is hard to question Nabokov's choices when he has such gusto for even his most gibberish literature. Also, so much better than Mary. Those two novels shan't share a rating.
