It's been a few days since I finished, but I'll try to give a good review. Emma left Evan behind to attend Stanford without any explanation as to why she was leaving. Out of Breath is two years later, and she is no longer the same girl. Sarah is still her best friend, but while she is studying abroad she has back up. Emma's new roommates all love her, and are just as protective as Sarah. Two years without Evan has taken it's toll, and she knows she will never be the same. Her only goal is to finish school, and try to move on.

***Spoilers***
Emma dates Cole for a little while, but she makes it clear that they are not together, and won't be. He is very sweet, and is determined to win her over. When her mother kills herself, she is forced to go back to a place she never wanted to return to. Evan shows up at the funeral, and finds Emma a shell of her former self. Not only is she drowning her sorrows in alcohol, but she isn't the same. Evan & Sarah find Emma passed out in the closet at the funeral home, drunk. At first she doesn't want to have anything to do with him, then he decides he is going back on the same plane. Turns out that his friends live right down the road from Cole's beach house, and Evan asks for two weeks and answers to his questions as closure. The more time they spend together, the more obvious it is that neither of them are over the other. Emma has so many issues, that she doesn't feel worthy of him. Of course it's inevitable that they get back together.

Such a perfect ending to an intense series. I can take a deep breath and release a sigh of relief.

That's a way to end a book! After three hours of nail biting and having terrible neck cramps because I couldn't get comfortable, I'm finished.
I was so incredibly frustrated for the first half of the book. I couldn't believe the depth of despair and hurt Emma allowed herself to crumble to. She was truly a shell of a person. And it took Evan to awaken her. He gave her her reason to breathe again.
Beautiful heart wrenching series.
