Rather slow-moving and mostly it consists of characters either talking or recounting what someone else talked about, but the setting is so well done that you feel like you could be at Styles, and the mystery is fairly entertaining so 3 stars.

My second Poirot read and I thought I'd go back to Poirot's debut which is about family affairs and murder in the countryside.

Captain Hastings, a friend of Poirot's, narrates this story which works well as Poirot seems to be displaying a lot of strange behaviour from Hasting's perspective. Hastings is a perfect gentleman, loyal and honest to a possible fault, and likeable. But, he's also distinctly dim in comparison to Poirot so as an admiring sidekick he is a wonderful plot device.

Totally enjoyed this tale but didn't guess the correct culprit this time. I obviously fall within Hastings range and level of detecting.

I'm finding myself a smidge addicted to these cases... I need the next one. Now!

Honestly I didn’t find this all that captivating and when I realized Agatha Christie is apparently kind of (really?) anti Semitic that really ruined it for me.
