This was a cute middle-grade retelling. I was immediately captivated by the cover and loved following Captain Hook’s daughter Jocelyn. This book felt a bit slow for a middle-grade read and it didn’t fully hold my interest, but I loved the concept and the beautiful illustrations definitely helped tell the story. If you are looking for a quick retelling that takes you to Neverland you may want to give this one a try.

I always enjoy stories with plucky characters - the ones you root for because they aren't perfect.

I'll admit to having a soft spot for any middle-grade book with a non-princess heroine. And My daughter and I both enjoyed Jocelyn, a finishing school drop-out who runs off the Neverland to avenge her father, the late Captain Hook!

I'm always here for reimagined fairy tales, and doubly so for female heroes. Jocelyn Hook is an obstinate, charming, genuine girl, and her adventure taking over the mantle of her father's pirate ship (the dreaded Captain James Hook) is wonderful. The narrator asides keep the tone light and fun, even when all seems lost, and the illustrations are in whimsical keeping.
Girls who want to be pirates and boys who want to be pirates alike will fly through this story.

This witty, imaginative book will delight your child. Everyone has heard of Captain Hook. Do you know about his daughter?
