I’ve always loved Studio Ghibli’s movies. In particular I loved Howl’s Moving Castle cause the idea was wonderful. Upon finding out that it was based on a book I set out to get my hands on it. About 100 pages in I decided to rewatch the movie to compare it to the book. Now that I’ve finished it I can’t believe how different they are. The movie is great in itself but I do prefer the book. The story is much fun and I didn’t expect any of it to happen. Thank god for the happy ending cause I was worried when things still weren’t resolved with 3 pages left.

don't watch the movie first, become obsessed with howl and then read the book, because at least for me it was a bit disappointing.

so much to say about this book i don’t even know where to begin. i think this will be a favorite for many years to come. i loved the effortless world building— DWJ has such a way of weaving hard world building and soft world building into the narrative that you don’t even realize what’s happening, just enjoying the beautiful scenery. i just adore the magic in this universe, i wish all magic systems worked like this. having seen the movie didn’t make me like this version any less, it was really fun to see the differences, honestly, and the fact that it also had roots in the real world! it was amazing. so much more than i expected. the characters were all so well written, each step made by each character made sense while also driving the plot forward in ways you wouldn’t ever expect. i loved every second of this book, i never wanted it to end.
