one moment everything was fine and the next mmc was accusing fmc about having a life before him. it was a frustrating book.

he had an issue she wasn’t a virgin before him and had her own past or what?
“Where had she gone, what had she done, who had she been? As much as he wanted to get beyond that, his pride held him fast. She’d borne another man’s child, been other men’s fantasies.
That thought stuck in the pride, in the ego, and refused to be shaken free.”

I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book but it was still enjoyable. Finding myself to be invested in the story and the brothers MacKade.

Adorable story. I am not sure how I feel about Jared and Savannah still. Their characters bothered me with the sheer amount of stubborn pride the both of them had. But that provided for some hilarious fights (aka Savannah's emptying of her house of his things was sheer perfection.) and for some seriously hot encounters.

Brian, her son, is definitely adorable and the best character in this book. I liked Jared's interaction with him. Brian's observation of the relationship between his mom and Jared was adorable and I've taken to calling people in love "stuck on each other." I'm still waiting for Jared's brother Devin's story and he's next in the series, so I will admit I tried to rush this book a bit to get to him.

I would recommend this book to any fans of [a:Nora Roberts|625|Nora Roberts|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1265820113p2/625.jpg]. Also, anyone who might like a romantic, sexy book with a strong, independent, hot-headed female lead and a strong, stubborn, prideful male lead and the friction (out of and in the bed) they create. I listened to the Audible Audiobook read by Luke Daniels. His voice is so sexy and deep, you just want to listen to him and the MacKade brothers all day. I would recommend if you can, to listen to the book instead of reading it, just because he does an amazing job.

"He was a man who stood for something, and never turned his back on a fight. So when Jared MacKade’s work as an attorney brought him up against Savannah Morningstar, her rude behavior and strong defenses weren’t going to stop him.

Savannah was the type of woman who defeated odds brutally stacked against her. And once he got to know her, Jared was determined to be the man to stand beside her in the fight." (From Amazon)

I liked Savannah and Jared and together they had great sparks. I enjoyed the story and the MacKade brothers.

The Pride of Jared MacKade
3 Stars

It is a testament to Nora Roberts' writing that this story was enjoyable despite the fact that the heroine is utterly unlikable and unappealing.

Savannah Morningstar is quite simply a B*TCH and I never use that word lightly! Not only is she rude and obnoxious, but she is prejudiced and vindictive as well. The reasoning is that her actions are ostensibly a defense mechanism, but this is insufficient to explain her inexcusable behavior.

Jared MacKade is stubborn and proud but he certainly hasn’t done anything remotely bad enough to deserve Savannah as his heroine. Even his obvious double standards when it comes to men and women don’t warrant this.

The story of the civil war antagonists which bothers so many reviewers is actually one that I enjoyed. Nevertheless, it is underdeveloped and the connection to the modern day characters is tenuous at best.

Hopefully the next installment will provide more of a link.

3.5 stars but the brothers are reminding me of the Montgomery brothers from Inns Boonsboro so I bumped it up.
