Hooked

Season 3 has me more hooked than ever. The web of intimacy between Nate, Ewan, Jack, and Channon is wonderful .

I'm particularly enamored of Ewan - fierce and bitey, but endearingly protective of Channon. Channon becoming his own person. Honestly if you're into the BDSM genre, this whole series is fantastic.

Reread 4/20/23: Still my fave. Sub school is so much fun, Channon meets Ewan & Tig and the play date at the end is just so good

Original review:

I really liked this one, more than I liked seasons 1 & 2. This season focused more on Jack & Channon’s relationship and less on smut.

Channon is starting to gain confidence & come into his own. He is learning about what he likes/dislikes and how to express that to Jack. Jack is very loving towards him, which I personally enjoy more than punishments.

This book introduces some interesting side characters like Ewan and Tig. The chapters about the sub school were especially entertaining and I really liked the group scenes.

I don’t read a lot of BDSM but this series is a lot more thorough than the books I’ve read and it’s interesting to read about the different characters’ kinks and how each of them define what is pleasurable and what is not.

The "His Boy Next Door" series has become one of my favorites based off of a BDSM relationship. I think in large part my enjoyment stems from the character of Channon. From the first installment he grown and evolves and the changes are great to read about. Each new season channon grown more and more, slowly growing into a more confident young man who is beginning to understand his worth. Jack also evolves through out the series. by this season he is starting to realize his feelings more and look at what he wants, what channon wants and what things he actually might be wrong about (I mean in his opinion he really can't be wrong, can he?)

The past season and this one fall along the same timelines as the Spin-off "A Collar for his Brat" which features Nate and Ewan. I like to read that 6 book series after Season 3 of "His Boy Next Door." It's not necessary to read it but it does help explain the relationships between Jack, Nate, Channon and Ewan better. the motivations, opinions and feeling involved are a lot more complex when viewd with the other POVs.

I’m loving this series so much but at the same time there are some parts I really don’t love

In this installment of the series we get to see Channon and Jack’s relationship really mature into something more than sex. I personally think that was the case even in season 1 and 2 but this season really had all the feels. I loved Jack’s possessive moments and I love how much Channon wants to please him.

I’m a huge fan of TPE relationships and while that’s not exactly the case here. They are pretty close and probably closer to what I actually like. Honestly my biggest gripe with this series is the amount of sex they engage in outside of the relationship.

There is ALOT of sharing. I really thought it was gonna be like an every now and then type of thing but that’s not the case at all. Channon frequently looks forward to being with other men and Jack frequently looks forward to watching it.

I don’t know how I feel about Channon’s restrictions on Jack. The part of me that doesn’t want any sharing to begin with, is happy that Channon has put this restriction on Jack being with anyone other than Channon. The self righteous part of me thinks it’s pretty f*cked up that Channon can literally have a train run on him but Jack can’t so much as kiss anyone else.

BUT the emotions felt real, when they aren’t sharing the smut is great, and their growth is awesome to see. Also I realize that the sharing thing is my own hang up. It doesn’t actually take anything away from the story. I just personally hate it. Everything about it is consensual and aligned with their kinks / the nature of their relationship and the life thy are building together.

So don’t feel like you have to skip it if cheating/ infidelity are no-go’s for you. That’s not at all what’s happening. It’s also not a polyamorous relationship. They just occasionally like to dabble outside of their main coupling.

ALSO, I almost forgot this. My other major gripe, is Jack’s pining after past loves. It makes me feel like he’s settling for Channon. 95% of the time, Jack seems completely enamored with Channon and absolutely inlove. But then he has these wistful thoughts about his past lovers and it feels like he wished they had worked out, instead of just this fond memory but ultimately happy that it didn’t work because he has Channon. It feels like if he could go back in time….. he’d want to, to make things work with Nate. Same with Mr. White. Even though he’s a Dom and so are they….. so it would have never worked.
