Laurence Yep, always a classic! This is one of the later installments of his Golden Mountain Chronicles series about Chinese-American history. Unfortunately, it suffers from the more modern setting, becoming a more standard assimilation/immigrant heritage tale

Stacy considers herself a normal American, but the arrival of a new Chinese transfer student means she's confronted by her own internalized racism! In 200 or so pages, she will learn a lesson about how her parents and grandparents are people and stop judging so much

It's okay.

Yep's still a competent writer, and I admire his dedication to cool old lady characters, but, you know. Maybe this one isn't my favorite
