Okay, I admit there were times I was very bored and would have stopped reading but I pushed on. Glad I did, this is a really great read (although something like 300 ((of the 550)) pages could have been cut out and it would have been more focused). Still for being written in 1851 the actual story felt timeless.

I did it! I read this with the Big Book Club at my local library. I can't say I enjoyed it. It's long, rambling, and archaic. Admittedly, I skimmed some, used Shmoop for some of it, and frequently referred to an abridged version. In the words of the book club host--if this is your favorite book, who hurt you?
