HOT FOR COWBOY by Steena Holmes is a fast-paced read as Stacey Hamilton, administrative assistant to Marcus, President of the Calgary Stampede, and her co-workers Tina and Patti, spend the day meeting and greeting the big wigs attending this annual cowboy event. For two years now, and for business purposes, Stacey has been emailing one of Marcus' business executive friends (Daniel) and now refers to him as her "on-line boyfriend," yet has never met him. This year at the Calgary Stampede, however, Daniel Ryan is showing up to meet his long time `pen pal' Stacey. With arrangements made ahead of time for Stacey to know who he is when she sees him, Daniel takes it upon himself to sweep her off her feet, having long since fallen in love with her. Apparently, they were not simply emailing `business.' This is a quick-read novella that can be finished inside of 2 hours with smart-mouthed Stacey and her spicy wit attempting to take control at nearly every turn. Daniel definitely has other plans and once she realizes what he's up to, the steam rises hot and heavy for the two of them.

I always think it's hard to review a short story. I picked this one up because it has Cowboys and I'm a sucker for a Cowboy :D Did I love it? Not really because I felt the story could have been much longer, but I don't know how much of a critism that actually is! I wanted to know more about the characters and I felt that what I had read was the first half to a much longer story. I enjoyed the introduction, now I want the main event.

Stacey is one of the main organisers of the Stampede event. Stampede is a mini festival for Cowboys complete with rodeo events and stalls selling related products. This year, she has double the amount of reason to stress over the event as not only will the Royal couple be there, so will her online boyfriend. She met Daniel online two years ago through her boss Marcus. Since that day, they have shared emails and grown closer, even though they have never actually met! Now the big day has arrived, will either of them be disappointed when they atatch a face to the personalities that they have fallen in love with?

I enjoyed this short story. The writing was fabulous and the author really drew me in with her style of narrative. My only issue was the length. Both the lead characters were well written and engaging. I liked the fact that both didn't really care what the other looked like because they had already fallen for the person, it was a nice twist. Stacey was a fun character, obviously very driven, but it felt a little odd that she had put her life on hold for 2 years for this man that she had never met (I'm to impatient to do so...I feel this may be the problem here :D)Funnily, it never states that he has done the same! Daniel seemed like a smooth customer, but obviously there is only so much we can actually get to know about him in such a short story :D The one thing that I wanted to explore more was his control issues, but I don't feel that we could do this in this length.

A good, steamy read that could have easily been doubled in length. I will be reading this author again.
