I read this prequel many, many months ago, and since then, I've read every book that has come out so far in this series. At that time I did not have the opportunity to review it, (as I did with the last books) so when I saw that it was going to be released (with some bonus), I went right to ask for it and reread it and here we are.
I have been lucky enough to read great authors in recent times, with a great understanding of gender diversity and the depth with which our journey of self-discovery can affect us. And also with great understanding that no matter the gender, feelings like love, joy, sadness, fear of rejection, of loss, are the same for everyone. In this prequel we have two best friends, one who needed to get away because he believed the world was waiting for him out there, and because being in love with your best friend without it being reciprocated is... painful. The other one who decided to stay and work and miss the friend who left, without understanding why it was so heartbreaking to feel left behind.
And we have the reunion. And thanks to the "games" of some well-meaning but rather nosy friends, these two friends have to deal with those feelings.
Needless to say, it's an entertaining, funny story, with some sexy moments, and with friends who are willing to continue "playing" games in the next books!

Cute story. I appreciate that there is an actual woman in this story. And the supporting cast of town folk are sweet. This felt wholesome the whole way through.

So Cute
This story is cute and sweet. I love the way the characters act together and how much they clearly love each other. This story was wonderfully complete and I'm looking forward to the next one.

Truman won’t tell Lyle he’s been in love with him forever. During a drunken game of two truths and a lie, their friends decide to help Truman and Lyle out. Lyle gets upset and leaves with Truman. While at Lyle’s house Truman kisses him. What could go wrong now?
Truman is such a sweet soul. Lyle doesn’t see what’s right in front of him. You should never drink and play games. It will always end in a disaster. I felt bad for Lyle when Truman left. You should never run away from your problems. The kissing booth was brilliant but making your friends jealous isn’t always the answer. When you think about something over and over that happened to you maybe it means more to you than you believe. This was a cute read.

A sweet slow burn story.
These books are such good fun, and largely helped along by the whole collective of friends who keep it humorous, I loved the text chats. I am glad Tru and Lyle sorted their feelings out. I guess with Lyle not knowing how he identified and not understanding his lack of sex drive the relationship was slow to get going. The initimate scenes were tame to read and the chemistry between the two men wasn't quite strong enough to cause explosive sex scenes in the bedroom: But this is fine; this was about Tru and Lyle and their journey and it was totally beautiful that they had each other. This story took place before the other guys found their 'game prizes' so it was fun to know what was going to happen before it occurred. A slow burn, low heat with two hearts of gold and this story was as sweet as a glazed hole special.
