I actually checked this out from the library because I am trying to complete Book Riot's 2018 Read Harder Challenge, and one of the prompts is to read a book with a cover you hate. When I saw this at the library, for some reason old Margaret's mug on the cover made my skin crawl, so I thought I would check it since it was the first cover I've really had such a negative reaction to since I started the challenge.

This really wasn't for me. I can enjoy things that are dark or grotesque (recently read Beautiful Darkness and loved it), but this just didn't do it for me. After I finished it, I read a number of really positive reviews of it, which made me appreciate that perhaps it accomplished what Broadbent wanted to do and I just wasn't buying what he was selling. I always hate rating books low when they're not just pure trash, but I really didn't enjoy this and so my rating reflects that. The art was very well done and Broadbent was able to convey a point-of-view and some dark themes, but this really wasn't my jam.
