Never in my life have I read a book with so many formatting errors oh my god
After reading the whole series of Death Note I -don't remember how- discovered that this novel excised, so, of course, I had to buy it. It's been about 10 years though, but I remember really enjoying it and having a hard time understanding the plottwist.
Beautiul cover too, I should re-read it some time and see how it holds up, so for now I'll give it a vague 4/5, based on the vibes of my memory.

1.5 stars. It was a nice dive in to nostalgia, but I've outgrown the series. There were many moments that felt like cringe-y anime tropes in writing form, and plenty of times that the author's twists and clues were obvious; they really didn't need a mastermind to figure everything out.
Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh on a companion book for an anime and I should just enjoy it for what it is, but it's hard for me to try to justify a better rating for a book that uses the R slur (the offensive slang, not the textbook definition) in a serious throwaway manner.

This book is a very easy read that you can finish in one go. It’s a fun story especially if you like death note and want an additional story with the characters. I can only recommend to read it!

Probably only three stars due to all the L content which I adored and am so glad to have read. Suffers as all translations tend to by a lot of dialogue without tags and with anything but efficiency of meaning stripped away. But fun to read and some crazy moments had a great time with it.
“To hell with Kira.
What matters to me is L.
L.”
You definitely need to read Death Note before reading this, as it has major spoilers for that series. I appreciate what this novel was doing, and I also am always up for more content about or featuring L. I found it to be pretty enjoyable, and I liked all the nods to the original series. However, there were a few things that fell a bit flat for me. Naomi was a little annoying at times, and sometimes the explanations felt too long and repetitive. Overall still good, and I recommend it to all fans of Death Note.
