This was a good story, the beginning was shocking, a real page turner. I find the end of the story slowed down. Great book, but The Glass Castle is still my favourite so far

I have thoughts about this book….

Honestly, I’m not sure if I actually liked it that much -but then, when I think about it the characters were strong and unique, the settings were described perfectly and the plot was interesting. All those things add up to a really good book. But this story just left me feeling 🤷🏼‍♀️
No spoilers, but it could’ve ended about 24 chapters before it actually did and it would’ve been fine. As it was, those additional chapters were really interesting and very well done but something about it made me not care as much as the first part of the book.
All that said, I really like the characters and I like way the story was told.

Wow!
How propulsive!
From the prologue to the end, not a moment of boredom (for me).
This was a delightful surprise.
I was pulled into the story and I was completely oblivious of the time and my surroundings.
I loved everything about it.
The writing was beautiful and the development of the storyline was simply incredible.
What a great historical fiction!
The setting is the 20’s, during the liquor’s prohibition period in rural Virginia.
Loved the family drama and the strong female character, Sallie.
Plenty of heartbreaking moments and sadness. But plenty of action too.
The only thing I disliked was the cover (I would have picked this book if it wasn’t by the author’s name).

PS. According to the author’s notes some characters and scenes were inspired by actual people and events.

Set in the mountains of prohibition where the daughter of the most important man in town finds her way by running liquor.

I loved this book so much. It made you fall in love with the characters and root for them every step of the way. I love books set in mountain towns like this. Walls is an amazing writer with a knack for storytelling.
