In this second installation of the Secret, Book, and Scone Society series, we meet old friends Nora, June, Hester, and Estella as they help a newcomer to Miracle Springs.

Abilene enters their lives unceremoniously as she escapes a life devoid of love. Neglected and abused, she finds her way to Miracle Springs and into the perfect circle of friends who can help her heal old wounds and build a new life.

With other, new strangers in town, the women find themselves in the middle of murder and intrigue once again. Fighting for themselves, their quiet town, and their new friend, they take on danger the only way they know how: grit, determination, good food, books, and a deep friendship.

Listened for Fun (Audible Purchase)
Overall Rating: 4.25
Story Rating: 4.00
Character Rating: 4.50

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

Why I purchased this: The Whispered Word is a bookclub read for Feb and I love Ellery Adams. She wrote two of my favorite cozy mystery series (Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries & Books by the Bay Mysteries ) so this was an easy sell. I have not read/listened to the first one but I am going to go back and do that. As always, her books are filled with a solid mystery and even better characters. I like they each have flaws but work through them the same way we do. I also really like Abilene and how the society rallied around her. Overall, a really great listen!

Audio Thoughts: I am a huge fan of Cris Dukehart (I think that comes to as no surprise to anyone) and she again delivered. She brought humanity, individuality, and beauty to each of these characters!

It took me a bit to get into this, but it was a good mystery!! I didn’t see the ending coming- and there was just the right amount of twists and turns. A cozy read- I am always a sucker for a book that regales the comfort of books in its story!

Second book in 'The Secret, Book and Scone Society ' Series.   The group of women are surprised by a girl named Abilene that shows up in Miracle Books.  She is skin and bones, scared and needing a place to stay.   The women soon get involved in another murder. Nora is the only one that wonders if it is connected to Abilene.  She won't tell the women anything about herself.

I liked 'The Whispered Word', but found that there were a few grammatical errors, as well as leaving a word out of a sentence. It got on my nerves a little bit.  Because of that I 'm rating it 3.5 ⭐,

😊 Happy Reading 😊

I loved the first book in the series so when I was offered the chance to read and review an ARC of the second book I didn't hesitate. This one was just as good as the first. Like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket, this book invited you to get comfortable and stay awhile. I was engaged for the first two pages. Ms. Adams has created and town and characters that are warm and welcoming. Miracle Springs is a quaint setting where people come to get a second chance. These four women are expertly written and come across the page as well defined, warm, caring, flawed, struggling, hesitant, cautious but willing to create a new life and new friends even if that comes with some pain but ultimately human. The mystery takes you on a journey through the entire story and provides enough clues along the way with some twists and turns to throw the reader off track. I couldn't put this book down and just wanted to extend my time in Miracle Springs with the Secret, Book & Scone Society. I will definitely be back for a return trip when book three comes out. I am hoping that this series will be around for a while.

I voluntarily read a digital ARC provided to me by the publisher through Netgalley.

I'm slowly becoming obsessed with this series. You can't blame me once you realize how relaxing and comforting the words in these pages are. It gives me the physical equivalent of taking a warm bath. The characters, the sprinkling of magical realism, the struggles, and the interactions within, are a kind of magic. I love it when a book transports me somewhere else, and I forget about reality for a while. I tried to savor the book, but it was in vain as I got caught up in what was happening and finished it fast. I'm going to try to keep the magic of this one for a while before moving to the next book in the series.
