Too long and convoluted. The good parts are good but have become fewer and farther between throughout the series.  The book should have been seriously combed through in terms of length/ comprehension. Many MANY pages are irrelevant and repetitive….. and repetitive. These first four books could have easily been 3 much shorter books and I would have enjoyed them much more. Although I have had a good time, I will not be finishing this series. Godspeed to those that do.

Enjoyed this book, I thought it was a good edition to the series. The character development of Poppy and Cas was great, as was the development of Poppy and Keiran’s relationship as they looked after each other whilst Cas was captured. I actually adore the love the three of them have for each other, one of my favourite book dynamics of all time, and I was here for the joining!
Loved Poppy’s level of badassery in this book.
Loved Isbeth as a villain, she is such a good villain. We love to HATE her, the fucked up twisted vengeful psycho with a weird way of showing love.
Some of the scenes were harrowing, JLA has no problems killing children, be warned. I can imagine this playing out on a screen and it being worse than Game of Thrones when it comes to gore and blood and horrible deaths.
The book felt long, and at times super confusing even if I read and then reread slowly. There is soooo much information.
Glad I read A Shadow In The Ember before this book as we got a lot of background knowledge from Sera and Nyktos’ story which tied into Poppy’s.
Overall a great book with goosebump worthy moments but drops points because there’s just so much to wrap your head around and it’s not always explained well enough to help me do that.
Satisfactory ending? Yes another cliff hanger.

By far the best in the series so far, color me highly surprised and very intrigued. It’s still very long, too long, but didn’t feel as long as the other ones because the story continued at a good pace all throughout. If it weren’t for the massive and disjointed info dump at the end this would’ve been 4 solid stars and I’d be eating my words. The writing is still not excellent and a bit cringy but I had a hard time putting it down because I needed to know what was going to happen. Chapter 44, though…. Holy 🌶️ 🥵. There are a LOT of plot holes and things that simply cannot and won’t make sense, but it didn’t bother me as much this time. Either she’s worn me down that much or it is slightly better. I think it’s slightly better. It might also just be my borderline obsession with Reaver. I would read an entire series about Reaver….. someone make it happen
There is no next book yet, and I kind of wish this was the final installment. There was a clear ending available here but she didn’t choose it, and the cliffhanger is a bit underwhelming.

Plot was interesting but man is it ever hard to follow the logic of all these beasties (who creates who, becomes what). Emotional arc was a bit flat.
