#2 CSI Eddie Collins.

I was plunged straight into another roller coaster action packed ride with Eddie. I would recommend reading them in order, but they would read ok as a standalone.

There are several POV which change within the chapter, the changes are clearing identified.  It’s not clear initially what the link is between the threads, the relevance slowly starts to be revealed.

We get the planning and execution of the crimes before we see Eddie’s contribution starting at an alleged  murder suicide.
Eddie seems even more caustic and depressed than in book 1 if that’s possible. He resigns from his job only to find himself headhunted into MCU as his expertise is needed.

We see an emotionally vulnerable side to Eddie which makes him more endearing. There’s so much emotional content in this book, I think it’s what topped the scales for a full rare 5⭐️
It is coupled with a lot of action too, with good levels of tension injected throughout. There’s never a dull moment.

Eddie’s actions are unconventional to say the least, but the author sold it to me. I was totally immersed in the story and invested in the outcome.

This is an author who has a great talent for storytelling. It’s a complete package, great character depth and development, some wry humour, a good complex plot, action packed and plenty of tension. Andrew Barrett deserves far more attention from readers in the crime genre. I highly recommend this series for crime loving fans.

A complex and very compelling story, with great characters, this book will hook you from the very beginning.

Eddie Collins is not your every-day hero, he's rude, and cantankerous, and bad-tempered, and yet... you can't help to love him. The plot is masterfully done, and even when at the beginning doesn't seem like anything makes sense, by the end of the book you'll see how each piece falls into place.

A great, very recommendable read.
