When I was a little kid I read this book over and over again. I remember learning about the insects that could walk on water, the illustration showing a "pet" katydid tied with a string to a boy's bedpost, and wanting to keep lightning bugs in a glass jar like the kids in the book. What fun memories!

This book is gripping for both my boys. My six-year-old will read the whole thing (several short chapters) to himself because the reading level is just right and he is interested in the subject matter. It's part of a series that I would like to get (Reptiles Do the Strangest Things, Fish Do the Strangest Things, etc.).
