My favorite line from SEARCH by Michelle Huneven: “None of the young people knows how to be part of a committee. They’re basically unchurched.” I laughed out loud.
But okay, now buckle up because I have THOUGHTS.
SEARCH is a novel posed as the memoir of our fictional main character, Dana Potowski. Dana is recruited to her Unitarian-Universalist church’s search committee for a new minister. At first, she’s ambivalent about the role on the committee but comes to find she cares deeply and gets all stuck in the mire of a messy process.
Okay, so first thing first, I had UU and UCC confused, so it was a little wild and disorienting to realize that UU is not even a Christian denomination.

While this is not in any way how Orthodox priests are chosen, I've definitely served on committees with candidate interviews. This was surprising in how painfully funny much of the situations were, though I agree that there is a sadness to it as well.

I don't know how I can hate every single character in a book but still enjoy the book but here we are.
