An old man fishes for 100 pages and then for the last 20 pages, sharks eat the giant fish he spent the last 100 pages trying to catch.

The Old Man and the Sea was a difficult book for me to get through and, while I enjoyed the start and the end, I struggled in the middle. After finishing it, I think my feelings in a way kinda reflect Santiago's long and exhausting chase. I read another review and I found myself agreeing completely with the author's personal interpretation. Santiago's sense of defeat, especially in the last part, feels a lot like depression and I think that is what made me a bit emotional and helped me re-evaluate the book at the end.

I was told that he has only lovely things to say, I can see it, faintly. Yes.
