This is the first full-length novel that I have read by Erica Vetsch, so I was not quite sure what to expect. I picked this book to read because it sounded really good. Plus, look at that cover!! What's not to love?

The Debutante's Code had a slow start. I had a bit of a time getting into and if I'm honest, finishing it. I think I was expecting more action than there was. However, there was enough mystery and intrigue to keep me going.

I liked Juliette. She tries to be sweet and proper, as she's been taught, even in the middle of the biggest disappointment of her life. There is much she doesn't understand about what is going on around her, yet she keeps doing what she is supposed to do. She handles everything with grace, and at times, good humor. She is a good friend to Agatha, even though she seems to be more mature than Agatha.

While Daniel Swann is the second leading character we do not get enough information about him. He is difficult to get to know. He is great at his job even when his co-workers have obvious disdain for him.

Toward the middle of the book, you can start to see the pieces of the puzzle coming together. The story is intricately woven together and well thought out. It does leave some things hanging at the end, leaving room for lots of revelation and more about Daniel in the second book.

Thank you to Kregel Publications for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this Regency mystery! It was fun, with lots of unexpected twists. It left me with just enough unanswered questions to make me excited to read the next book in the series. This is my first read from this author. I will definitely read more from her!

This is the first book by this Author that I have read.
I liked Juliette in this book, and could sympathise with her confused ideas about her returning home and her parents not being there. She couldn't understand why her parents wouldn't be there for her first season as a Debutante. I could imagine being in her shoes and would def feel the same. Imagine her surprise when she is told that she comes from a long line of Spy's for the Crown.
What I did find hard to reconcile though, and I know Juliette felt the same, was trying to be a Christian and having to lie about things. I'll just leave that there.
Daniel Swann, a runner for Bow Street, gets involved, and wow does he have a background!
Overall, I did enjoy this book. I managed to borrow this from the library.

This is an engaging mystery that kept me guessing until the end. I love to try and solve the crimes but will admit that I didn't even come close to guessing who was behind the desire to unearth those working for the crown. I had a few suspicions but I wasn't correct, but that is ok because that is the fun in trying to decipher a mystery!

I'm not sure which character I liked the most, they all had redeeming qualities and added depth to the story. Juliette is a debutante that is pulled into the spy world, but at what potential cost? Is it something she wishes to pursue? She does dive headfirst into learning some of the tricks of the trade from Uncle Bertie since her parents are away. She definitely takes to this world like a duck to water and proves to be adept at cyphering codes, pickpocketing (those piano lessons help with nimble fingers), and with a few lessons, she learned how to transform herself and even protect herself from nefarious criminals. However, her aversion to blood could be her downfall but only time will tell.

Juliette has a best friend, Agatha, but I don't feel like we got to know her as well as we could have but mostly because she was a cover for Juliette whether she knew it or not. I hope that if this becomes a series that we see their friendship continue and perhaps she becomes involved in some capers, but unwittingly. Of course, Agatha does have a penchant for saying too much and it is her revelations that caused me to look in other directions for the guilty party.

Uncle Bertie is a hoot, he might be my favorite character...but I'm not 100% sure. Detective Daniel Swann is a morally upstanding man and I know he has to wrap his head around the situation when all is revealed. Plus there is a bit of chemistry between Juliette and Daniel even if they haven't given in to it...yet.

Overall, this was a different twist in the mysteries I normally read but I loved it all the same and look forward to another book in this series and it looks like one will be out next year. yeah!

We give this book 5 paws up.

3.5; the mystery was quite intriguing and i fairly enjoyed the supporting characters and unusual premise. the main thing that reduced my enjoyment was juliette herself. her train of thought was so repetitive but hopefully she'll show some growth in the next books

It started slow, but by the end, I couldn’t put it down and am now anxious to start the next book. The mystery kept me guessing until the end and I picked the wrong guy as villain—I appreciate when an author can do that!
